From Alex: Blog looks great. I took this picture of an old gas pump today in Red Hook on Van Brunt between Commerce and Delevan. Its not an ad but I thought it fit the theme on your site and relevant for the times. I believe this is a Wayne 866 Clock Face model. Wayne was the first maker of gas pumps, started in Ft Wayne, Indiana back in the 1880’s.

What an incredible collection of oil on wood renderings of Coney Island Avenue, Ditmas Park and its environs. Witte captures the neighborhood and signage during our time for all time. These images will be further immortalized in the next Nicole Holofcener film with Catherine Keener.

Within a few days of my prior posting of these signs, the adjacent buildings are being torn down.

Kevin Walsh (Forgotten NY) forwarded me this message last week. Unfortunately, by the time I got to it, it had already been partially obscured. Hopefully when they cut down this banner, someone will shoot it before a new sign covers it.

Yes, what a hell of a world this would be without signs.
