The iconic windmill in the Dutch landscape is equally ubiquitous in literature and graphic representations. Here in this painted advert, it is used as a reference as to what the windmill can do, other than pumping water out to the sea, but milling grain. Mulder in Dutch is Miller and the windmill is a miller’s most prized tool- but the stone is the printer’s most prized tool – a smooth limestone surface used in lithographic printing, which was developed in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1796 by German author and actor Alois Senefelder.

César Jacobs brewery was located on the Olivetenvest in Mechelen, near the old Winketbrug. This brewery (Brasserie Winketpoort) was, in 1900, founded by César Jacobs (1856-1938) in a cooperative with some publicans. This cooperative would hold out until 1906, after César Jacobs tried it on his own. – Mechelen Mapt

Grand-Hornu is an old industrial mining complex in Hornu in the municipality of Boussu, Belgium. It was built by Henri De Gorge between 1810 and 1830. It is a unique example of functional town-planning. Today it is owned by the province of Hainaut, which houses temporary exhibitions in the buildings. As one of four Major Mining Sites of Wallonia, UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site in 2012. – Wikipedia

Spread over a century, from 1880 to 1980, the history of Wielemans-Ceuppens…merges with that of the beer industry in Belgium: exponential growth, constant adaptation to modern technology and demand market purchase of competing breweries followed by absorption by a larger, decline and closure. In 1978 the brewery was taken over by Stella Artois. The business was phased out from 1980 and on September 29, 1988 the last Wieleman Beer was brewed. The Centre was opened in 2007 in the old [Deco] building for contemporary art, after restoration and renovation works were started in 2005. – Wikipedia

Apparently while Gaia was harvesting almost five kilos of hazelnuts that are growing wild in her picturesque medieval town of Amersfoort in the Netherlands, the generally aloof Turkish immigrants were eager to comment to her about the hazelnuts of Turkey. No wonder!
The top producer of hazelnuts, by a large margin, is Turkey, specifically Giresun Province and Ordu. Turkish hazelnut production of 625,000 tonnes accounts for approximately 75% of worldwide production. Nutella consumes 25% of global supply. – Wikipedia

I appreciate the efforts to restore these ads but I wish they would just leave them alone. Many are not nearly as aesthetically pleasing than the original fade (i.e. Philips, Harlingen NL).
