    This was Mr. Katulak’s bar (phonetic). He serviced all the long shoremen and ships that disembarked at Stulman Emerich Lumber yard across the street. He also raised pigeons in his back yard on Green Street. The house had his family in there Miss Vicki and son. Then there was Richie, who had gotten a new Schwinn Panther with horn. That bar had a cigarette machine that would have pennies in the cigarette pack for change, I remember Lucky Strikes, my dad smoked. I loved that street, everyone knew everyone. It was safe except for a few bar fights, because at the corner and Green and Franklin, was Mikulak’s bar. So many kids, so much to do, unbelievable that kids today are bored.

        Well thank you so much. Anyone traveling around Greenpoint, please see if there is anything left of the Dupont Street park and across the street, if the ball field still exists. Yes I was a tomboy, and we used to watch all the Moran tugs tied up near the handball court. I was lucky enough to be waterboy for the Green Street and Huron Street games. I still can’t see why out of either street that one of those boys were never picked up by a scout. They were great, especially P. Kobryn, amazing ball player. I kid you not, no one wanted to go on vacation or camp. Our summeers never involved police bringing us home, we had too much fun to get into trouble.

    It was great to stumble upon these pictures. That bar was owned by my husband Frank Katulak’s grandfather who ran it with his father. Vicki was his aunt and they just sold the building 4 years ago. I was wondering if I could purchase copies of the pictures for posterity. Please contact me by email and let me know.
