My father, Eugene Sheneman, worked at Tip Top Cereal Company from July, 1935 to January 1939. As a machine operator, he made $27.00/ week. He was promoted to foreman and earned $35.00/week. He pased away 12/7/11, at the age on 97, and as I was going through his belongings I found his work records and looked up this website.
Wow Jeri- Thank you for stopping by and sharing some of your family history. Glad to have captured this for you. Best, Frank
My grandpa bought this from the widow of the previous owner. I have paperwork somewher for the name. Then when my grandpa passed away my Dad bought it. When I was a kid and the Cleveland Police would call because their alarm was going off I’d ride with my dad in the middle of the night to go down there and lock it up again. Once a Cleveland cop that was there told me that it used to be a “Bar” and upstairs the “ladies” would entertain gentlemen privately. (a cat house is what the cop called it but at the time I didn’t know what that was.) After my dad died and we went down with the attorney, for the first time I noticed the steel rod were the bar sign hung all those years ago. You could see were the origional door had been bricked up. Such a neat building… very interesting history too.
