I just recently took almost the same pictures as yours and am now interested in the historic background of this building. Have any info on this?
Usually I research a photo before posting. I don’t believe I found anything relevant on the Internet about this building. Perhaps other public records that can be accessed locally may reveal some history. Let me know what you find.
Will do. Already started.
I may be able to help you with your research.
Rollin Blaine “R.B.” Wicker was my grandfather. He started the tire business in 1945 and my father still runs it. Cornudas Cattle Co. was my grandfather’s ranch in southern New Mexico and he had an office in the back corner of the building. I am not positive when the brick three story building was built (I will ask my dad), but I suspect my grandfather purchased it in 1945. I think the front part that is made of rock was built in 1945 although it may have been built earlier too.
I have some very similar pictures. The park was built by the City maybe ten years ago. I really like the contrast between the bricks and the modern park. Local photographers frequently use it as a backdrop for models.
Thank you for sharing your family history with us Tom! I was so pleased to find this building when driving down to El Paso in the RV. I was tired and needed a place to pull in to make a sandwich. Enzo and I stayed in the parking lot for an hour, I took pictures around the area and we ate. It was a great afternoon. We ventured out into El Paso and did some shopping. I hadn’t been in El Paso since 1969. My dad took us into Juarez and that was a memorable experience. Wasn’t going to risk losing the RV to banditos.
