My parents have a kentile floor and I need some tiles to repair some cracked one’s they are light cream colored w/brown design. Any idea where I could get some. Thanks
Remove them… they not only contain asbestos; but, cracked kentile flooring can cause asbestos fibers to circulate causing cancer. Get an asbestos professional to remove & replace them. The Kentile Co. had so many lawsuits due to this cancer-causing product that they eventually declared bankrupsy.
I don’t think Kentile vinyl-asbestos tiles are available anymore. You would have to go with a newer tile. Click here for info about the newer vinyl composite substitutes.
A mesothelioma website lists Kentile Floors as going bankrupt in 1992 due to the asbestos risk. According to Kevin Walsh from Forgotten-NY, “Kentile was founded by Arthur Kennedy in 1898 and once billed itself as “America’s largest manufacturers of super-resilient floor tile.” Kentile hung in there till just a couple of years ago following a series of strikes and costly asbestos lawsuits.”
I am responding to Dale’s report on a cache of 300 Colonial Brick Kentiles. I just bought a 50s house and I need as many of the tiles as I can get to go with the ones in the kitchen. Please email me if they are still available with price. Thanks!
dfruge@go.com asked about the tiles and asbestos. Can anyone elaborate about these tiles. If you have a living area that currently has these tiles on the floor, what procedure will you have to use to remove them. Safe, not safe… looking for information.
Just realized this was not a site for Kentile floor tiles or any other product. Just a place where you wanted to display fading, vintage wall signage. Sorry to take up your space… got detoured by Google!
I know this isn’t a Kentile website but, like Marsha, my browser brought me here. I have about 350 square feet of 9″ Kentile vinyl tiles in 3-brick red. They are used, but in excellent condition. Contact me by email if you are interested (namark@lsu.edu). Thank you, Fadingad, for allowing this off-topic thread to continue.

Thanks
Why on earth is everybody so anxious to buy more of this stuff and put it in their homes?
Almost all the old Kentile floor tiles (except those from a couple years before the company folded in the late 80s and early 90s) were made with asbestos. It’s one thing if you already have these tiles and they are in good condition, but surely buying used toxic floor tiles and installing them in your home isn’t a good idea! As they age, the tiles break down and release smaller asbestos particles into the air, causing cancer.
If you do remove the stuff, hire a professional trained in asbestos removal or at least get a proper respirator and other protective equipment for yourself.
Trying to locate box or boxes of Kentile Reinforced Vinyl Tiles, Antique Beech Textured Woodgrain circa late 70’s early 80’s 982M 1L101B 12×12 1/16th thick It is VCT, so should not be asbestos.
Are you guys nuts?
You should not be handling kentile tiles – they contain asbestos.
That very defiantely gives you cancer as well as other seriously bad conditions.
You should get a specialist asbestos removal company to deal with the tiles.
I have a 60 year old house and the laundry room has the two brick Kenmore red tile. I steamed it and it looked horrible. I kept washing it again with water, didn’t help at all. Bought REJUVANATE from Walmart. What a remarkable change. Floor was shiny and no streaks. Looked fantastic. Stayed that way for a long time and then you have to recoat. This liquid can be put on with a plain sponge mop. It’s good for tile, wood and other flooring. They also have a Rejuvanate for furniture too. Hope this helps.
