My mother before her marriage worked at the r&g corset factory for years along with her brother. She often told me about the people and the working conditions for the women which for those days was relatively good.I was born and brought up in So.Norwalk and my father ran a small grocery store in the Springwood section of town. The area became known as whistleville because of it’s proximity to the railroad station and the incoming trains would always announance it’s arrival by blowing the whistle.
Thank you Frank for your contribution. These precious anecdotes make the images come to life. Maybe one day we’ll run into each other in Whistleville!
Any information on this subject will be greatly appreciated.
