United Thread Mills manufactured sewing thread in a textile mill in this builing at 146 Greene St. from 1962 to 1982. The words United and Mills can no longer be seen. A history of the company and a 1991 photo of the unaltered sign is at the link http://www.14to42.net/unitedthread.htm .
Robert- You have to meet Walter. He’s a great guy. Bob Middleton actually bought this photograph from me. I met the Middleton Brothers at my show at the N-Y Historical in 1998. That’s also when I met Grutchfield if I remember correctly. Again, thanks for all of the background checks and links.
Now it’s just “Untied Thread Mills”
I feel I might introduce my self here. My name is Kate, I’m a newbie here, someone told me that i might find some good information here so… basically that’s why I’m here, and for any good advice i might get also… hope to have good time here
I can’t think of a more appropriate time and place to begin a good piece of science literature… snow on the ground… my faithful dog at my feet, bathed in the warmth of the yule time log in the fireplace.
I am looking forward to visiting this forum regularly.
