Great photo. My father managed the Rialto Theatre from 1960 for about five years, and I spent a lot of time hanging out there (and watching movies, of course). The Rialto was my father’s theatre during the early 1960s (it was at Flatbush near Cortelyou or Clarendon, I believe, just a block or two up from the Loews Kings; he worked for the Century chain, and they moved him around over the years; he also ran the College Theatre, which was just around the corner from Brooklyn College). The photo shown is from 1950 (deduced from the films that are advertised on the side marquee, and the ones that are coming soon, as advertised on the front; this was standard advertising practice when the currrent films were not big box office, and the future films hopefully were).
Great photo. Very cool to see this, Frank; thanks for posting it.

Dear Jay-
I had a feeling this was the theatre you spoke about in your “yoot.” You must have many memories. Have you ever thought about writing a memoir around your Rialto and other Flatbush experiences? Sounds like a musical!

Hi,
My father purchased this building in November of 1984 and it still functions today as the Church of God of Cortelyou Road.
We recently celebrated our 27th anniversary last month. This picture is AWESOME!
Do you still live in NY? If so, please let us know if you can come by for a tour of our church.
