Hi there! I co-run a site called “NEPA Blogs” that tries to catalogue all the blogs we can locate from or about Northeastern PA! I don’t think we’ve done you yet. I’ll be sure to add yours on it as soon as I can.
I wish I had photos of some of the fading ads from my youth, which are now gone along with the walls they were painted on. There was, of course, the Mr. Peanut in Wilkes-Barre, but in Nanticoke there was an apartment building near my grandmother’s house that had a faded ad painted on it. It looked like a giant sign on a stick at a rakish angle, and the only words I could make out were “CHOLERA CURE”.
Not quite an ad, but there was also a building downtown (across the street from Burger King, where Rite Aid now stands) with words painted on either side of some obstruction. The words came out something like
TONY ‘S
MODER N
SHOE
REPAI R
When I was a kid I would pretend that it said “Tony’s Moder ‘n’ Show Repair” – a place that fixed motors and shoes. Quite a guy, that Tony!
Hey Harold (That’s my middle name!)
Thanks for the add. Send me a link to your site! Send me some pix too from Nanticoke. I’ll post ’em!
See you at the NEPA blog convention! When is it going to be?
Best,
Frank
