Driving up Rte 171 in Northeast Pennsylvania, past Carbondale and through Forest City, you will start seeing signs for Cable’s Store. A clever folk art ad campaign indeed, created by current owner Aunt Terry. Her son Jhared & nephew Ian were excellent historians. Established in 1910, Cable’s is a great place for a hoagy or soda or whatever else you need on a gorgeous Autumn afternoon in PA!
This is a great store. The signs convinced me to take a look. It was even more fascinating because the history provided isn’t quite accurate. This was built in 1899 as a place to store wool for the Spanish American War, but the war ended before the building was put into use. After that, it became a meat market/store. So, it is actually well over 100 years old and has been in business all that time! Hope it’s here for another 100!
