Blind Privilege (written around the time of Virginia Tech Massacre).
On her CBS video-blog, Katie Couric divides the world into two categories of people- Those who rinse their dishes before putting them in the dishwasher- and those who don’t. Excuse me Katie- that reductionist & elitist metaphor illustrates that problem with today’s media commentators- blind privilege.
As we grapple for meaning after the Virginia Tech massacre -the right-wing media – CNN’s sensationalist Glenn Beck – talks about morality with a Christian panel whose underlying message is as contentious as always- family values. In a culture that supports anti-gay discrimination, where “parents of faith” throw out and shun their gay, lesbian, bisexual, questioning and transgendered children in the name of morality- the problem isn’t Quentin Tarantino desensitizing us to violence.
Salvation Army – Another Look, Brooklyn 1999

Recently, I’ve come across a folder of scanned images that I’d prepared for an exhibition at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Society in December of 2000. The event had a walking tour- co-sponsored with the Brooklyn Historical Society and the former Brooklyn Historian, John Manbeck. We didn’t expect so many people to come. It was a bit chaotic, but it was a happening. Kevin Walsh from Forgotten-NY came with his entourage as well. Here is another look at the Salvation Army Brooklyn Citadel sign behind BAM near Hanson Place. I plan to post these images daily in alphabetical order.
