There are many examples of Gillette advertising across London, nearly always with this lovely blue background. Here they are advertising razors but other examples feature matchboxes. Along with Brymay and Hovis they are perhaps one of the most prolific types of surviving Ghost Signs. I presume the picture in the background is of a guy shaving with his ‘Bristish Made’ razor.
I’d love to know where this is and how you got such a good angle to photograph from? It looks like it was painted to be viewed from a train line?

Hey! Thanks for the comment. I really don’t remember where this was. It was certainly north of the Thames and on the way to the East End going perpendicular from Soho. This one was definitely Soho – http://fadingad.wordpress.com/2007/03/21/six-years-ago-today/
I have better shots of it. I’m up in my country home with my pick London shots which I intend on scanning and posting over the next week. Perhaps you can help me on some locations.
Best,
Frank
