When I was in St. Louis on my cross-country
trip, I stayed with the incomparable William Stage,
author of the book "Ghost Signs."
He has since moved on to other photo-journalism
projects, but he recommended this newly exposed
sign, as well as the Wrigley's Pepsin Gum on the
next page.
"Why experiment with other brands" may have been
a response to the Gold Medal Flour slogan, "Eventually...
Why Not Now?"
